Reflection

Touch me and see. A ghost does not have flesh and bones as you can see I have. Then he eats fish.

The Resurrection is not spiritual escape from the body. It is the body restored, glorified, real. Jesus has scars you can touch and an appetite for fish. Christianity is the most physical religion in the world: God took a body, suffered in a body, died in a body, and rose in a body.

In the evening of life, when the body aches and fails, this matters immensely. The body is not a prison to escape. It is the temple of the Holy Spirit, destined for resurrection. The body that hurts now will be raised. The hands that can barely grip will touch and be touched. The Risen Christ ate fish. You will feast.

Peter proclaims: the author of life you put to death, but God raised him from the dead. The author of life. The one who wrote the story of your life is alive, and the story doesn't end at death. It continues. In a body. With scars. And fish.

Prayer of the Faithful

For those whose bodies are failing: that the promise of bodily resurrection would be their sure and certain hope. We pray to the Lord.

Something to Do

Look at your hands tonight. They are the hands of a person destined for resurrection. The same hands that will one day be raised, glorified, and whole. Touch me and see. Alleluia.

“O Lord, our God, how wonderful your name in all the earth! Alleluia.”

— Psalm 8:2
