Worth Dying For

Mark 6:14-29
Sts. Paul Miki and Companions, Martyrs

Today's Word

Herod has John the Baptist killed - not because he hated him, but because he was too weak to do the right thing. He made a promise at a party, and pride trapped him. Meanwhile, today the Church remembers Paul Miki and his companions - 26 Catholics crucified in Japan in 1597 for refusing to deny Christ.

Real Talk

Two very different stories. One man too afraid of what people would think to stand up for what's right. Twenty-six people so convinced of what's true that they died singing hymns. Here's the uncomfortable question: what would you be willing to lose for your faith? Your reputation? A friendship? A relationship? You probably won't face a cross. But you will face moments where following Jesus costs you something. Those small choices shape who you're becoming.

One Prayer

Lord, I don't know if I'd be brave enough to die for you. But help me be brave enough to live for you - today, in the small things. Amen.

Your Challenge

Identify one thing you're afraid to lose. Ask yourself: is my grip on this making me less free to follow Jesus?
